70lbs = hell
@CJacuzzi Have you driven a Lotus Elise? Clearly not. To say a car loses to an Elise is not saying it is a bad car – just not as good. I am happy to admit that the MX-5 is a fine driving car. But I hate the styling, and I wouldn’t want to own a car commonly driven by hairdressers and middle aged women wearing headscarfs. I imagine getting into an MX-5 would feel like I imagine cross dressing would feel like – not something I’m into LOL
@j101saar Whenever I pass a Porsche 911 they’re always driven by unattractive, balding men. It doesn’t mean they’re not good cars. Did you really laugh out loud as you typed that last sentence?
You’ve never driven an MX5 so your opinion is based entirely on the people you have seen driving them. Your argument therefore is entirely invalid
@Devgru38 bro I think you just got pwned..
@CJacuzzi I said an old Lotus Elise – not a new one. You can get a good used Elise for new MX5 money. I’ve driven a Subaru Impreza (as well as Porsche 911, Ferrari 360) and I would say its a capable car but I wouldn’t buy one. I haven’t driven an MX5. I don’t like the style. Whenever I pass them, they are driven by middle aged women wearing headscarfs, or hairdressers LOL.
@j101saar A new Elise is £10,000 more than an MX5. Have you ever driven an MX5 or are you just mirroring what you’ve hard other people saying about it? Let me guess, you read Max Power, have a negative IQ and think the Subaru Impreza is ‘propa boss’.
Why are some people incapable of forming their own opinions on a car just because their peers have told them it’s a ‘hairdresser’s car’. The MX5 is a great car that you can pick up for an excellent price. There’s a reason it’s so popular – it handles great and is just a hell of a lot of fun to drive. Some people will never realise this because they don’t have a capability of independent opinion. I don’t care who calls my 2005 Icon a hairdressers car – I have fun every time I drive it
so the only improvement is the prht? and isn’t the new engine .4L bigger?
@LogicRising I’m sure its very nice. I had no idea so many hairdressers take part in amateur racing.
What about an old Lotus Elise? It would kick an MX-5′s backside.
@j101saar You’ve said your opinion, now here are the facts: The miata has been proven on the track for two decades. Spec Miata is the largest and most popular amateur racing class within the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Try to find another rear wheel drive car under 3000lbs anywhere near the same price range.
miata sounds lame compared to mx5.
@j101saar Thats usually what people that havent driven one say. Ignorance is bliss.
No matter how good they make it, it will ALWAYS be a hair dresser’s car…
make it “better” not “perfecter” where the fuck did you go to school!?
I learned almost nothing from this
The old one was faster than the new one…
the 90 was pretty fast for a 1.6L
actualy the US models were called miatas and also have the mx5 badge on them. And the US also had the eunos verson and some miatas/mx5′s came with the momo or a nardie steering wheel
@Gcbrd Out of the box, yes. But only because it has a bigger engine and better brakes. The old ones can easily be made faster.
@AkarZaephyr I think my modified ’92 1.8 is pretty sporty. If it gets any lower and stiffer I can’t drive it on the road. Does a huge engine make a sports car? Not, really.
@wazawizam If you care about that you shouldn’t get one. It may look like a girls car to some, but my ’92 1.8 would be quite a handful for an inexperienced driver, especially on slippery roads.
@sydneyfc My ’92 1.8 that I got this summer has 280000+ kilometres on it. Except for a broken door handle I haven’t noticed any problems. It’s a blast on twisty asphalt roads. Not fun on dirt roads (my car is lowered with stiffer suspension). With the top down on the motorway it feels like your hair will rip out. Lots of fun for very little money IMO.
I like my modified ’92 1.8, even if it’s not in top condition. We have lots of narrow twisty roads, and the little MX-5 sticks like glue in the corners. Many owners here drive in snow (with snow tires or studded tires all around). The only problem in the winter is that my car is lowered.
its pronounced ‘ mAzda ‘ not ‘ mARzda ‘ ! lol
still love my 91 miata…. take away the old school flip up lights and you have nothing! lol
