2007 Mazda MX-5 Miata PRHT Road Test by Edmunds’ Inside Line

Posted by Dan on Jan 30, 2011 in Cool Cars |

You might have thought, as we did, that the world’s most perfect, tidy, eminently usable folding soft top didn’t need to be replaced by a power-operated folding hardtop. Particularly in a simple, elemental car like the Mazda MX-5 Miata, the inevitable added weight and complexity could dull its reflexes and blur its focus. Don’t worry.

@coolerdude44 you obviously know nothing about the weight of an ls1 and the resulting performance increase from doing the swap.

70 pounds is not bad. Get a skinny girlfriend or loose some weight and you you can get the same perfomance.

@coolerdude44 Some high powered engines are actually super light, GM LS engines come to mind.

wow, I am looking into buying one, I knew some good stuff, I REALLY did NOT know top down takes 12 seconds, when he said that I litterally blasted a huge sticky load in my pants. why? because even the $70,000 corvette takes 18 seconds,

Hard tops add so much in security as well! That’s huge in todays society with all the unwanteds around.

@lawrencelugar7777 I’m 6’3″ mostly leg, I grew out of go carts when I was around 14 so the Miata…..not really gonna work. Not sure what a red American but I’m not insecure. Wife, great career, house, and a kid on the way. You?…..ah thats right your profile says your psycho. Is this self diagnosed or an intimidation thing?

You must be one of those insecure, red Americans.

You’re about all power, no handling or overall quality though.

Lol, the plastic hardtop breaks and collapses… Poor choice of words!

@bgiber the mx5 doesn’t need more power, 0-60 in 6.9 seconds is pretty quick. and anyway, the car’s not about power it’s about balance.

doing a more powerful version would be going against what this car was designed to do, and it would just become a 370z wannabe.
